How many of these words do you know?
From the snippet below of a page of Bob's Bible, you learn, among other things, that OYSTER takes an R front hook to make ROYSTER (to revel), OZONISES can be rearranged to form OOZINESS and PA can be extended to make SPA, PAC, PAD,PAH, PAL, PAM, PAP,PAR,PAS, PAT, PAW, PAX or PAY!
PADRONE (a master) has the anagrams APRONED, PANDORE (an ancient lute) and OPERAND.
The information goes on and on. Every acceptable 2-8 letter word is listed in all caps in alphabetical order. To the left of each word are the front hooks, those letters which can be added (one at a time) to form a new word. To the right are the rear hooks, those letters (one at a time) which may be appended to the main word to form a new word.
For each word that has one or more anagrams (different words with the exact same letters rearranged), all of the anagrams are listed in lower case. The front and rear hooks apply only to the UPPERCASE words, of course.
All of these words' definitions can be found in The Official SCRABBLE (tm) Players Dictionary. |
